When a horror-loving radio show becomes the stage of a gruesome murder, its host Tinsel Monroe is put next on the killer's list…
A fast paced, thrilling murder mystery novel, paying homage to slasher films of the 90’s, The Graveyard Shift is the perfect Halloween read for fans of Riley Sager and Grady Hendrix.

Tinsel Munroe has busted her guts to get where she is. Yet her dream of working in radio hasn’t turned out to be everything she hoped it would. Sure, she has her own show – aptly titled The Graveyard Shift – where she celebrates the sounds of cult-cinema, but the wage is barely enough to cover her rent and the midnight hours are putting a strain on her relationship with her boyfriend. Even after three years at Melbourne’s coolest station, she’s seemingly no closer to a prime-time slot.
That is, until someone is murdered live on air.
Mistaking it for a Halloween prank, a visit from police informs Tinsel that the hysterical call was – in fact – the real deal. She’s freaked out, but her true-crime obsessed sister Pandora is fascinated.
While detectives assure them the killer will soon be caught, the bodies continue to drop with the killer striking in increasingly gruesome ways. With a growing, macabre audience to her radio show, that potentially includes the killer, Tinsel begins receiving strange messages over the text-in lines. Her workplace, and even her home, are suddenly not the sanctuaries she once thought.
Tinsel and her sister are left with no choice but to team up with Detective James as they race to find the connection between her and the culprit. The people she thought she could trust are now those she should fear the most. In order to survive, Tinsel is going to have to listen to more than just the airwaves…

Lewis (Mockingbird: Strike Out) delivers a tepid serial killer whodunit steeped in slasher-film lore. On an unseasonably cold October night in Melbourne, radio host Tinsel Monroe arrives at the studio for her late-night show, a mix of movie trivia and tracks from classic horror movie soundtracks. On this particular night, she’s offering two tickets to the premiere of a new horror film to the first caller who can properly answer a deep-cut trivia question. Melbourne local Mera Brant is thrilled when her call gets through, but her excitement quickly turns to horror as she’s murdered while on the air. Tinsel mistakes it for a prank, but police confirm that Mera has, in fact, been killed, so Tinsel and her true crime blogger sister, Pandora, team up to investigate. As the body count rises, the slashing and beheading is balanced by a budding romance between Tinsel and the handsome cop assigned to the case, and by forays into Pandora’s struggles to balance motherhood with her true crime obsession. Unfortunately, the mystery is easy to solve, and Lewis’s characters are paper-thin. Horror fans may get a kick out of the abundant soundtrack-focused trivia, but anyone looking for real scares or surprises should look elsewhere. Agent: Ed Wilson, Johnson & Alcock.

For spooky season, Melbourne tunes in for Tinsel Monroe's popular radio show, The Graveyard Shift. Tinsel is something of a local celebrity and on the night of Halloween is asked to host a special showing of Halloween, the original 1978 movie. Later that night, during the normal, nighttime hours of the radio show, a woman calls in to win a prize, and while on the phone, she yells in fear that someone is in her room. Tinsel writes this off as a crank call, but she changes her mind when the police show up to question her about a murder. Tinsel goes from suspect to possible victim, quickly ending up in the middle of the murder investigation with a hunky detective. From the opening to the slasher-type murders, plus the narrator's references to the horror-film genre, this book will be a hit among horror fans. It is reminiscent of the Scream movies in the best ways, with an even more appealing main character.
